Review: Stellar Cosmic Face Powder in Haze

Stellar Cosmic Face Powder is a lifesaver. If you’re familiar with my Differin debacle, you’ll know how much I struggled to find makeup products that would work for my skin after using Differin caused my skin to go a little haywire. Over the last few years, my skin has gone from extremely oily to being normal to dry (it varies a lot with the weather). As someone who’s had oily skin for most of their life, it took some adjusting, especially when it came to powder products. I was desperately trying to find a powder that I could use to set my foundation and concealer that wouldn’t make my skin look like scaly. Then I discovered Stellar Cosmic Face Powder, and it turned out to be one of the best setting powders I’ve ever used.

Stellar Cosmic Face Powder in Haze

Stellar is a cosmetics brand founded by Monika Deol, an India-born, Canada-raised television personality. Her products are designed to work for all skin tones, but the line is especially well-suited to people with medium skin tones, which are often glossed over and ignored by other cosmetic brands.

All of Stellar’s products are cruelty-free, vegan, gluten-free, fragrance-free, phthalate-free, sulfate-free, and paraben-free.

Stellar’s Cosmic Face Powder in Haze is a super soft, finely milled powder with a slight lavender hue that helps to brighten dull skin.

Stellar Cosmic Face Powder is packaged in a sturdy, compact, travel-friendly plastic jar with a sifter. The holes of the sifter are only on one side, which prevents it from dispensing too much powder. The cap is soft-touch rubberized, which looks and feels great, but also tends to attract smudges.

Talc, Silica, Dimethicone, Potassium Sorbate, Chlorphenesin, [+/- (May Contain): Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891).].

Stellar Cosmic Face Powder is an extremely smooth, soft, finely milled powder. It has a matte finish.

Stellar Cosmic Face Powder does not have any scent.

This powder is nearly undetectable on my skin, yet it sets my liquid and cream products beautifully. It keeps me matte for the majority of the day and controls oil, but I do start to look a bit more luminous around the 5-6 hour mark. Everything blends well over top of this powder. It also makes my skin look a bit smoother, but it’s not so dramatic that it completely transforms my skin.

When I first saw this powder, I was concerned that it might look strange on me because of the slight lavender tint, and that it might cause flashback. In my experience, neither of these are true. The lavender tint is only enough to even out my skin tone, I definitely never look purple. I’ve also never experienced flashback with this powder, but if you apply a ton of powder, there’s a chance you might. Silica, which is typically what causes flashback, is listed as the 2nd ingredient. In the photos below, you can see that it didn’t cause any weird color shifts or flashback on my skin whether it was in natural daylight (left) or with flash (right).

Final Thoughts

This is an excellent powder, and definitely something I’d recommend checking out if you have dry to normal skin like I do. It’s much more flattering on my skin than most other powders, even my beloved Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder. Stellar Cosmic Face Powder may not be matte enough if you have extremely oily skin, but I think it’s a great option for all other skin types.

You’ll probably like this if…

  • You have dry skin or you feel like most face powders are too drying
  • You want a matte face powder that doesn’t look or feel cakey
  • You’re searching for a powder that looks great under any circumstances
  • Clean and/or cruelty-free beauty products are important to you

Skip this if…

  • You have very oily skin and you need a powder that will keep you completely matte all day. This powder can keep me matte for about 6 hours, but after that I do start to get a little shiny. If you have really oily skin, I don’t think this will be enough to keep you matte all day long.
  • You’d prefer a powder that adds luminosity to your skin, in which case I recommend you check out the 3 other shades of Stellar Cosmic Face Powder
