What’s the best way to close off a year? By talking about some of my favorite things!

There were several haircare products I loved this year, but I discovered most of them too late in the year for it to be fair to include them. If you think there’s something missing from this post, that’s probably why. Bumble & Bumble Dryspun Thickening Spray and Verb Ghost Oil were the stars of the show for me this year.
Verb Ghost Oil
This product was a total surprise for me, and something I actually discovered through a subscription box. I was in love with this almost immediately because it made it so incredibly easy to brush my hair. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: my hair is basically a demon. It’s unruly, tangly, poofy, and pretty much everything else that no one wants their hair to be. I typically can’t brush through my hair when it’s wet without snagging a million tangles, but if I brush it when it’s dry, I look like an electrocuted poodle. My solution is brushing it when it’s damp with a pump or two of Ghost Oil distributed through the midshaft and ends. This makes the brush just slide through my hair, causing less damage and making it way less painful too. It also helps to smooth my hair and control frizz, which I need more than ever after bleaching my hair so much this year. Plus, there’s no greasy residue. That’s why they call it Ghost Oil! I’ve tried tons of detangling products over the years, but nothing has ever worked nearly as well as this. Verb’s Ghost Oil has been a staple for me for most of this year, and I don’t see myself ever giving it up.

I love hair with lots of texture and body. My ideal hair style is a combination of the volume of a Texas beauty queen and the messy, careless rebellion of a 90s grunge rocker who’s just rolled out of bed. Bumble & Bumble Dryspun Thickening Spray helps me to achieve that. It’s a spray with a texture similar to dry shampoo that helps to create more volume and body in the hair by making it less slippery. In turn, this prevents the hair from being too sleek and forces the layers of hair to sit on top of each other instead of sliding together. If you have thin hair, this product is going to be your best friend. It’s also super helpful if you find your hair is too slippery to hold a style or bobby pins slide out of your hair because it will add the grit you need to keep everything in place. I often use this in place of hairspray because it holds my style without feeling crunchy. I lift up a few layers, spray it through the lengths of my hair, then shake it out a bit to give me that perfect undone look I love. It works equally well in both curly and straight styles!
It’s no surprise to me that I discovered some of my new favorite perfumes through Scentbird. I love trying new things and Scentbird gives me an easy, affordable way to try new fragrances every month. If you’d like to learn more about Scentbird, you can do so here (Referral link. You and I will both get a month of Scentbird for free if you sign up using my link.) Otherwise, let’s discuss these fragrances!
Pinrose Gilded Fox
Gilded Fox is like candy for grown-ups. It’s sweet, but in a sultry, mature way. If you’re looking for a sweet scent but find things like Prada Candy too immature or simplistic for your liking, give Gilded Fox a try.
Notes: Cocoa, Cardamom, Buttered Rum, Vetiver, Amber, Cedar
Malin & Goetz Dark Rum
This is my favorite fragrance discovery of the year. I’ve never smelled anything like it. It’s warm, complex, sexy, inviting, mysterious, fun. It’s an interesting balance between smokey, fruity, sweet, and earthy. If you like Thierry Mugler Alien, I think you’ll enjoy this too.
Notes: bergamot, plum, anise, leather, rum, vanilla, patchouli, amber and milk
Etat Libre D’Orange Like This
This one is woody and spicy, which is a bit of a departure from what I usually like. Ginger and musk are two notes that get me every time though, and Like This is no exception. If you’re looking for a scent that feels very Bohemian and carefree without smelling stinky, this is a great option.
Notes: Ginger, Pumpkin, Tangerine, Immortal flower, Moroccan Neroli, Rose, Spicy notes, Vetiver, Woody notes, Musk, Heliotrope
Those are all of my favorite haircare and fragrance products for 2017! Stay tuned for the next installment- skincare!
