Review: Jini Beauty Box Dry/Mature Skin March/April 2017

We’re changing it up this month! If this is the first one of my Jini Beauty Box reviews you’ve read, then this won’t seem strange at all to you, but my regular readers will know that I usually subscribe to the normal/combination skin variety. In light of the changes my skin has been going through thanks to Differin, I decided to try the box for dry skin this time around. It was also nice to change it up a bit. Since the selection window in March, my skin has actually bounced back to its natural state of being combo to slightly oily, but I enjoy hydrating products no matter what my skin is doing at the moment. This is actually one of my favorite boxes in all of the time I’ve been subscribing to Jini Beauty Box, so I’m very excited to share this box with you!

Disclosure: I purchased this box with my own money. This post does not contain affiliate links.

If you haven’t heard of Jini Beauty Box before, they’re a bi-monthly k-beauty subscription box that retails for $44.95. The box contains mostly skincare and one or two makeup items per box. You’re promised 6-8 full size products/deluxe samples, 2 sheet masks, and a few bonus sample packets. The unique premise with this box is that it’s curated by skin type (normal/combination, dry/mature, oily/acne, or sensitive/troubled). If you want to learn more about this box, I have an entire post here that explains everything about this box in-depth. Ingredients for all of the products included in the box can be found here.

Mediheal N.M.F. Aquaring Effect Toner| Full Size

Retail value: $25 for 145 ml eBay

My Thoughts:

I’ve only used this a few times so far, but I like the texture. It absorbs quickly and has a very light aquatic scent. It’s supposed to control sebum in addition to being hydrating and encouraging cell production. I’m excited to continue using this!

Swisspure No Problem Stick Dry Care | Full Size

IMG_6357.JPG

Retail value: $16.13 at KollectionK

My Thoughts:

I really like the idea of this, especially with my skin still having the occasional bit of flakiness from Differin. I’ve only used this once so far, but it was really helpful for quickly hydrating my skin and making flaky bits behave when I put on my foundation. I also love that this is in a stick because that makes it really portable and versatile. You could use this on your face or body, use it on your cuticles, or even rub a little bit off on your fingers and use it to tame fly-aways or smooth the ends of your hair.

Innisfree Orchid Enriched Essence| Deluxe Sample Size

IMG_6358IMG_6359

Retail value: $9.61 for 15 ml Full size (50ml) $32 at Innisfree

My Thoughts:

This is a very thick essence with a slight floral scent. It’s almost a little stringy when you rub it between your fingers and then pull them apart, similar to a snail mucin product or the Beauty of Joseon Dynasty Cream. It absorbs quickly and leaves the skin feeling soft. This serum provides the skin with antioxidants, and is meant to be anti-aging. I like it so far!

It’s Skin Babyface Petit Mascara #03 Clear| Full Size

IMG_6356

Retail value: $7.17 at Walmart.com

My Thoughts:

I like the effect this gives, especially to define the lashes for a no-makeup look. The card in this month’s box also says you can use it as a primer, but I haven’t tried it that way yet. I’m intrigued by the possibility though, especially since it wouldn’t be as much of a hassle as a white primer.

Peripera Blur Pang Pure Milk Blur | Full Size

IMG_6354

Retail value: $14 at ClubClio

My Thoughts:

This was the only product I didn’t like in this month’s box. It has a really strong white cast, which is a trend in Korean makeup to create a milkier complexion. I personally don’t enjoy that look on myself, but if you’re looking to achieve that look this would be a good way to do it. It has a slippery matte silicone feel to it and creates a blurred effect.

April Skin Honey & Red Ginseng Mask| Full Size

IMG_6362

Retail value: $3.50 available in a box of 10 for $35 on AprilSkin.com

My Thoughts:

This is a hydrogel mask meant provide hydration. I haven’t used this yet, but check my Instagram for a review in the next week or so.

Hiddencos Latte Mask| Full Size

IMG_6364

Retail value: $2.39 available in a pack of 10 for $23.99 at OO35M.com

My Thoughts:

How cute is this mask?! This mask actually contains coffee extract, which helps to stimulate the skin and create a temporarily brighter, tighter appearance. I haven’t used this one yet either, but I’ll review it on Instagram at some point.

Mediheal Hair Sheep Steam Mask| Full Size

IMG_6366

Retail Value: $3.77 available in a set of 5 on Amazon for $18.87

My Thoughts:

I love the idea of this! It’s like a sheet mask for your hair, in the form of a shower cap coated in serum. It even has little sticky tabs on the temples to keep it in place. I haven’t used this yet, but I’ll let you all know how it goes on Instagram!

G9Skin by Berrisom White in Whipping Cream

Retail Value: $1.05

This truly does have the texture of whipped cream, it’s pretty cool. Also note that the little tub actually is full, it just got shaken up in transit and is sticking to the lid (which has a deep lip) because it’s so thick. I’ve only tested this on the back of my hand so far, but it was incredibly hydrating and left a soft the demi-matte finish to the skin, which reminded me a bit of the way NARS packaging feels. It did take a lot of rubbing to absorb, but once it did, I really liked the effect.

Final Thoughts:

The total box value (not including the bonus sample packets, not shown because I already put them in my sample drawer and now I have no idea which samples came from this box lol) this month is $82.80!! That’s very nearly double (which would be $89.90) the price you would pay for the box, even closer to double if you subscribe using the 3- or 12-month prepay subscription to save some money. I’m very happy with this month’s box! I feel like there are some fun, unique products in here and some practical ones too.
I think Jini Beauty Box is a great choice for beginners especially because it provides a variety of products tailored to your skin type and a helpful info card that even tells you where to use the product in your routine. As someone who’s been using Asian beauty products for quite a while now, I feel like I still discover new products, especially some lesser-known gems such as the Cosmo Monster Aqua Gel Sunscreen that I absolutely love, and the really fun masks included in this month’s box. If you think this box would be a good fit for you, I definitely recommend giving it a try.

A full list of ingredients  for the products in this box can be found here on their website. Reviews of all of the previous months’ boxes, as well as additional information about the service can be found here. If you’d like to subscribe to Jini Beauty Box, you can do so here. Additionally, Jini Beauty can be found on Instagram (they post spoilers for each month’s boxes!) and Twitter. I can also be found on Instagram and Twitter, come hang out with me!

Thanks for reading!
xx
