Rocksbox Review | August 2017

Raise your hand if you love jewelry, but get bored of wearing the same old pieces.

*Raises hand*

What about playing around with different looks to find something that fits your personal style?

*Raises hand*

Now keep your hand up if you have the budget to keep buying tons of jewelry you might only wear a few times.

*puts hand down*

If you’re anything like me, the idea of being able to wear new jewelry all the time without spending a fortune is a pretty exciting thought. It turns out, there’s actually a way to do that: Rocksbox!  Rocksbox is a way to try before you buy, or a fun way to switch up your look for those of us with commitment issues. You can rent 3 pieces at a time for $21 per month with free shipping both ways. I think it’s a pretty exciting concept, and I think you guys will love it. I’ll be sharing a review of my first Rocksbox with you, as well as giving you guys some more info about Rocksbox and what to expect if you decide to sign up.

About Rocksbox

  • Rocksbox is a jewelry subscription that costs $21 per month.
  • Shipping is free both ways, and your box will come with a prepaid return label that you can use to return any or all of the pieces if you decide not to keep them. If you decide to return some or all of the pieces, just put them back in the box, reseal the envelope it arrived in, apply the return label, and send it off. Super easy! No need to print a return label or stand in line at the post office.

  • If you decide to purchase any of the pieces you receive, you can apply your monthly membership fee of $21 to your purchase, effectively giving you $21 off of your purchase. You’ll receive this $21 credit every month. Rocksbox calls this a ‘shine credit’.
  • When you begin your subscription, you’ll fill out a brief questionnaire about your likes and dislikes. You’ll also add some pieces to your wishlist. This is what your stylist will use to select your set!
  • Your stylist acts as a curator picking out pieces to suit your taste. They can also help you pair pieces together and even help you put together a cute set for a special occasion.
  • You can take out more than one set per month without having to pay any additional fees. Once you return your set, your stylist will begin curating your next set and ship it out to you within 1-2 weeks. If you receive two sets in one month, it’s still covered with your $21 membership fee for that month. In this scenario, you’d only be charged the monthly $21 fee, not $42. Cool, right? Honestly, this was a selling point for me when I was reading other peoples reviews. Me, commitment issues? Never…

Got more questions about how Rocksbox works? It’s probably already been answered in their FAQ here.

My Experience

One of the things I was most curious about with this service was the timeline. How long would the whole process take from start to finish? After filling out the questionnaire (the questions were things along the lines of preferences for gold vs. silver and the style of jewelry you’d like to receive) and adding pieces to my wishlist, it only took a couple of days for my set to be curated. I received an email letting me know my set was ready and it shipped the next day. From that point, it was only a few more days before I had these beauties in my hot little hands. The whole process took about a week.

I want to talk a little more about the wish list process and the selection Rocksbox offers. Rocksbox carries jewelry from over 30 designers, so there’s a lot to choose from. I knew from reading reviews that there were already a few pieces I wanted to try, but I wasn’t expecting to fall in love with so many pieces. I’m picky when it comes to jewelry, and I definitely have a style that’s all my own. I’m not an easy person to please, but I was genuinely excited about so many of the pieces that I was actually squealing as I was putting my wishlist together. Rocksbox suggests that you add at least 30 pieces to your wishlist to help your stylist in curating your set. From there, you’ll select 10 pieces as your top picks. You can change these out as often as you’d like.

There’s also a space to add additional details about what you’re looking for. You can use this space to let your stylist know if you have any special occasions coming up that you’d like them to style a set for, or to let them know about any special requests, such as only wanting vegan jewelry, etc. There’s also a place in the style quiz to let your stylist know if you have any metal allergies, so no worries if you can’t wear a certain metal, they’ll take care to make sure you don’t end up with pieces you might be allergic to.

My Rocksbox Set

All three of these were what Rocksbox calls “granted wishes” or pieces from my wishlist. I thought these were a great mix of pieces to create varied looks. I mentioned in my style quiz that I love to mix feminine and edgy pieces together. I’d say my stylist, Lara, got my style spot on. I can mix the Perry Street Carli Statement Drop earrings with the Slate Billie Choker necklace for a feminine glam look, or wear the House of Harlow 1960 Helicon Leather hoops for more of a rocker vibe. They’re all beautiful on their own too. I can confidently say that I’m very happy with my first set!

I love these earrings! I think they’re so chic, and they make a statement without being too over the top. I definitely gravitate more toward dainty jewelry, I don’t like to have accessories that overwhelm my look. I added these to my wishlist and let my stylist, Lara, know that I was open to trying some statement pieces. I wasn’t sure if I would like these because they’re big compared to what I typically wear, but I absolutely love the look of these. They’re not heavy either, which is good because that’s a deal breaker for me. I haven’t decided whether or not I’m going to keep these yet, but I’m very tempted. Leave me a comment and let me know if you think I should buy them!

I’m not a hoops girl. Like, at all. But I saw these earrings on the website and had to try them, so I’m very glad Lara chose them for my first box. I was very intrigued by the leather on these and thought they would be so cute for edgy looks. I do really like these earrings, but I still don’t like the way hoop earrings look on me. I’m really glad I got to try these out because if I had purchased them, I don’t think I would’ve worn them very often. I love hoop earrings on other people, I just don’t think they suit me, which is a shame because these are so cute!

This can be styled as a typical choker with the jewels sitting across the front of the throat, or as a short necklace that sits right along the collar bones. On me, I like it better as a short necklace rather than a choker, so that’s how I chose to style it. It’s a beautiful and very versatile piece. I can see this going with a ton of different outfits, especially because it can be dressed up or down. I’m kind of tempted to keep this one too, but at the same time, I don’t know that it’s unique enough for my collection. As beautiful as it is, I think I’m going to send this one back… after I wear it a few more times!

If I had purchased all of these pieces from a retail store, it would have cost me at least $153. Rocksbox is typically able to offer pieces at a discounted rate for members, so if you decide to purchase one or more of your pieces from Rocksbox, you’re probably already getting a discount, plus being able to use your $21 shine credit to take even more money off the retail price. Getting to try these out for $21 was a great value.

If you’d like to try out Rocksbox for yourself you can use my code cristinebff6 to get your first month for free! If you decide to use my referral code, thanks so much, I really appreciate it!  Whether or not you use my code, I still recommend giving Rocksbox a try. I think it’s such a fun, unique idea and I’m already looking forward to my next set! Definitely tag me in your looks on Instagram or Twitter if you decide to subscribe to Rocksbox, I really want to see how you style your sets!

Thanks so much for reading!
